About A Life That's Good Podcast

Hosted by Phil & Ally Campbell-Main

With a name pulled from a popular soundtrack, “A Life That’s Good” started in 2023 as one small-town radio DJ’s attempt to capture what has made life good for him over the course of 65 weeks before turning 65 years old

The “65 before 65” project encouraged us to visit two dozen towns and villages, support more than 60 local organizations and interview over 100 individuals. The goal of this passion project changed and evolved over time as new partnerships began, new friendships were forged and news spread of a so-called local celebrity’s great adventures through the area.

However, one thing remained steadfast throughout: the power of a story. From energized, inspired accounts of young business owners to the reflective recollections of wise and witty nonagenarians, A Life That's Good became an anthology of stories from real people. Stories of creativity, resilience, passion and of course, community.

Community: exploring it, supporting it, and most importantly, building it. It continues to be a gift getting to know these people and to BE known. The community created through having intentional, meaningful conversations with local business owners and neighbours has become one of the things that makes life good every day for both Phil & Ally.

Phil Main (he/him)

Phil Main is a riddle, wrapped in an enigma, cloaked in a mystery. At least, he likes to think so. He’s really just a guy with a big heart who loves where he lives! (Can you tell HE wrote this?) He will jump at almost any chance he gets to go for an adventure in or around Huron, Perth or Bruce County and he especially loves his hometown of Goderich.

Above all else, Phil loves his family and friends, but a close second is his community where he is always happy to serve when he can. He also loves music, whether it’s sitting back and listening or writing and performing. Be forewarned that if you ask him what his favourite artist or band is, he will most likely respond with “Supertramp … no Eagles … no wait, the Beatles … nope, James Taylor … or maybe Lightfoot or no wait … ” This could go on for some time so if you do decide to ask, be sure to bring snacks.

Ally is an artist, photographer and writer living in Huron County with Phil and three very spoiled cats. Ally devotes most of her non-cat-cuddling time to creating art to support causes and projects she believes in, attending community events and capturing the beauty of Huron County with her camera. In addition to providing an added layer of dad-jokes and puns to the podcast, Ally's favourite part of the podcast is getting to hear people's stories and learn something new!
